Mark Tully's
Mark Tully's India
Sir Mark Tully was the BBC's Foreign Correspondent in India from 1972 to 1994. On this special recording, he looks back at a career that coincided with a remarkable period in Indian history. As well as the assassination of two
Indian Prime Ministers, Mark Tully reported the storming of the Sikh Golden Temple, the horrific aftermath of the Bhopal gas disaster, and the conflict between the Hindus and Muslims after the demolition of a mosque at Ayodhya. With specially recorded observations, this compilation, published to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Indian independence, is a unique record of his broadcasts. They provide not only a historical account of events, but also a vivid insight into India itself, home to more than a fifth of the world's population.

Maeve Binchy
Maeve Binchy: No Nightingales, No Snakes
These five stories, specially dramatised for BBC Radio 4, include The Night People Came In For Something That Was No Trouble, in which Cara's envy of another couple's ease at giving dinner
parties spurs her to plan the
perfect evening - but things don't go as she'd intended. The Stepson sees Clare taking great care not to try to replace her stepson Simon's
dead mother. Decisions at Sea finds
Tessa, a secretary, heading out on a cruise, where she faces a big decision. In The Answer Machine, Biddy thinks her family need an answer machine - but by Christmas, she is beginning to regret the whole idea. And in By The Time We Get to Clifden, Nessa and her husband Harry are planning their annual break to Clifden, when neighbour Melly seeks their help, and ends up changing their itinerary and their lives.

Starring Sally Phillips
Clare in the Community: Series One
Social worker Clare Barker likes
nothing better than interfering in
other people's lives, while at the
same time finding it a trial having to
put up with tiresome members of the public. Politically correct, humourless and
prone to jargon, she is entirely lacking in self-awareness, making her encounters with colleagues, family and her partner Brian wonderfully entertaining and richly comic. In these six episodes, Clare babysits a friend's child, loses sleep due to her neighbours' noisy sex life, attends a hated client's funeral, and takes driving lessons from Brian.
Adapted from the long-running cartoon strip in the Guardian, this hit radio sitcom won a Sony Bronze Award, and stars Sally Phillips, Alex Lowe, Gemma Craven and Nina Conti.
