Dorothy Edwards
More Naughty Little Sister Stories
Dorothy Violet Ellen Brown was born into a working-class family in Teddington on 6th November 1914, and wrote her first story when she was four years old. She dreamt up My Naughty Little Sister to keep her daughter quiet whilst on a family holiday in 1950. Dorothy based the character on her younger sister, Phyllis, and went on to write five books about her naughty little sister to wide acclaim. Each story and its characters, including the Little Sister's best friend, Bad Harry, was brought to life by Shirley Hughes's incomparable illustrations, and although over fifty years old, the stories have become
timeless classics. Dorothy Edwards also wrote for the children's TV programmes, Playschool and Jackanory.
