Death

Gyles Brandreth
Oscar Wilde and the Ring of Death

This, the second in Gyles Brandreth's acclaimed series of Victorian murder mysteries featuring Oscar Wilde, opens at the Cadogan Hotel, London, in May 1892. Wilde - at the height of his fame and fortunecannot know what he has begun when he proposes a game of 'Murder', in which each of his dinner guests must list the names of those they would most like to kill. It is only a game, but within hours the fourteen 'victims' begin to die, one by one. Featuring a cast of characters that includes Lillie Langtry, Bram Stoker and Waiter Sickert, Oscar Wilde and the Ring of Death is a compelling story of passion, deceit and murder set in late-Victorian high society.

Earth

Kei Miller
The Same Earth

It all begins with the theft of Tessa Walcott's polkadot panties and a river that changes course overnight. When Imelda Richardson leaves the small village of Watersgate, Jamaica, armed only with one small suitcase, she is doing so for' the second time. One of the throng of young Jamaicans who left the island in the 1970s, Imelda's journey has taken her to England, to the home of ganja-growing rebel Purletta Johnson and the arms of fake Northerner Ozzie. But when her mother dies Imelda returns to Watersgate, choosing Jamaica over England. It is 1983 and when Tessa Walcott's panties are stolen, she and Imelda decide to set up a Neighbourhood Watch. But they haven't counted on Pastor Braithwaite and the crusading zeal of Evangelist Millie.
